Rev. Dr. Helen Appelberg

The Rev. Dr. Helen W. Appelberg, Executive Director for the William Temple Episcopal Center, has also been a visiting scholar for the Sealy Center on Aging at UTMB for the past four years.

Before moving to Galveston Helen served as assistant director of pastoral care at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston's Medical Center and in 1994 Rev. Appelberg founded The Community of Hope and continued as its director until 2002. Community of Hope trains men and women of all faiths to become lay chaplains for people facing illness, loss or any other crisis. Today active Community of Hope centers are located in cities across the nation.

Since moving to Galveston in 2002, Rev. Appelberg has been serving the congregation at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church located at 1410 41st.
