Spirituality in Healthcare Dialogues
Purpose:
- To encourage the healthcare community to recognize that spirituality is intrinsic to the human condition.
- To provide a forum for professional collaboration to advance the understanding of spirituality and health.
- To share how some healthcare professionals are relating spirituality to clinical care.
- To share published results from research pertaining to spirituality and health.
- To encourage and guide healthcare practitioners in responding to the spiritual needs of patients.
- To consider spiritual meanings and perspectives of suffering, illness and ethics in the practice of healthcare.
- To consider the relationship of the healthcare practitioner and the patient from a spiritual perspective.
THE DIALOGUE GUIDELINES
The Dialogues are offered in the spirit of scientific inquiry and of the Church’s work in seeking the Mind of God. As people enter into dialogue with the speaker and responders, they are asked to observe three guidelines: (1) Differing opinions are encouraged because the search for truth is not enhanced when all think alike; (2) Acceptance and appreciation of the person with a different opinion is crucial to this adventure; and (3) All questions are to be taken seriously.
